VX Nerve Gas Disposal Resolution

Home Page

The following letter contains the edited text of a resolution that was passed at the CuCCGP meeting on April 18, 2006:
Green Party opposes VX bay dumping
The Cumberland County Citizens Green Party joins the chorus
of local officials and concerned citizens in stern
opposition to the U.S. Army's plan to dump all or most of its
stockpile of a watered-down version of VX nerve gas into the
            Delaware Bay.
We are concerned about the effects of dumping this dangerous
by-product of VX nerve agent on the fishing industry, which could
cripple the livelihoods of many bayside residents living in
Greenwich Township, Fortescue and Bivalve. It could lead to the
killing of many species of fish.
It also could have dangerous effects on human beings who eat the
affected seafood, especially those with weakened immune systems and
conditions that affect the nervous system. It could taint the water
supply of residents in the region because many residents draw their
water directly from the Delaware Bay.
So the CuCCGP urges the officials involved to scuttle this plan
because of the adverse effects it could have. The CuCCGP further
urges the officials involved to consider alternate methods of
            disposal.
